Today we’re launching a new feature on the California Law Report, aimed at demystifying the practice of law and learning more about particular practice areas. We’re going to be conducting a series of interviews with practicing attorneys to learn more about their particular area of law. In these interviews, we’re going to focus on what the general public needs to know about their practice area. The goal is to provide a resource for members of the public who may need to hire a personal injury attorney, or a criminal defense attorney, or a real estate attorney, etc.
Our first interview is with attorney Matt White, and we couldn’t have picked a better first interview. Matt has approximately 30 years of experience as a personal injury attorney representing individuals who have been injured in automobile accidents, workplace accidents, or through the negligence of others. He’s also a well-respected local leader in the community, having served in numerous voluntary boards and commissions including as the President of the Marin County Bar Association.
In the interview, Matt gave great advice about what types of questions you should ask if you are looking to hire a personal injury attorney.
We also got Matt’s opinion on why attorneys are generally held in such low regard by the public.
Later in the interview, I got Matt White to talk about his experience as a mediator. With mediation growing in popularity, it was a rare opportunity to get in the mind of an experienced mediator and learn about his thought process in mediating cases.
We’ll save that portion of the interview focusing on Matt’s mediation experience for Part 2, which we will publish next week. Check back again next week.
(We are also going to work on uploading a transcript of the interview to this page, hopefully within the next few days.)
